I earned my gold stars with two visits to Dr. Wicked, one while on the treadmill, where I'm writing this though I think I'm about to make myself seasick because I sway from side to side when I walk (I'm not going to call it a waddle but that word comes to mind). Can't say much for the quality of anything but I wrote nearly 2,000 words today -- the first day I've almost achieved my word count goal this month. Kind of sad but overall I'm glad. Will keep going.
If you haven't tried "Write or Die," you might like it. You put in your word goal and your time goal then press "write." Anytime you pause the screen starts turning pink, then will get red, then will play obnoxious noises. Today's noise was a crying baby. You can also set it to kamikaze where it erases your words one by when while you pause, but I'm not that stupid. I've found it's a really good tool when I need to be forced to write.
Now, if only I could figure out how to get off this treadmill..... Burned 156 calories. There. It's off. That felt good and will continue to feel good unless I make the mistake of reading my work.
Looking forward to reading about everyone's success and strategies.
Would anyone like to do a Vanessa Grant Writing Romance book work group after JaNo? I like hanging out with y'all and would like to continue after January.

Writing while on the treadmill. I am impressed. I can't imagine doing that. I lack the coordination. There'd be a treadmill tragedy that would make national news.
I tried the Write Or Die site. It was pretty funny, and even though I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't make it, it really did push me.
I may have that book by VG. I'll have to check.
I used Write or Die during Nano, almost daily. One day I did 8000 words in 6 hours.
But the last time I used it, I hit the wrong button and lost EVERYTHING. So now I try to be disciplined myself.
Outstanding progress! No matter what it takes, seasick or not, you're pushing through. Wonderful job!
I've found a lot of really helpful things in the Writing Romance book, things that help on levels including and beyond the romance genre. However, I'm especially partial to the MP3 files that I can listen to while I'm doing other things that take me away from writing. Still I have flags marking things all over that book.
I don't think I have that book amongst the millions of writing books I own. I'll have to check. But I'm amenable to hanging out a bit longer. I'm enjoying everyone, too!
Actually, I'd intended to propose another "wrimo" month -- perhaps in June or July?
I'm game! That'll give me plenty of time to edit the manuscript I just finished and get ready for another.
I found my Writing Romance by VG book! WOOT!
You guys are doing great with your word count. WTG!
Mary F., goodness gracious that's a lot of words with Dr. Wicked! I would collapse.
I usually make it in doses of 750 words in 20 minutes just in case the Internet goes down or something -- I don't want to lose too much.
I accidentally threw my computer into sleep mode the other day before copying and pasting my work from Dr. Wicked -- I was so grateful when I "woke" my computer up to find out that Dr. Wicked still had my words and all was well.
So glad y'all are finding your VG books. And I'm also up for another wrimo -- maybe sooner than June?
Says she who hasn't exactly turned in a stellar performance in January...
Write or Die scares the heck out of me.
I'm such a dork - seeing my little word count widget go up each day on my blog does the major motivation thing for me.
Oooh, I love writing sprints. LOVE THEM. They are one of my secret weapons.
Wow.. How do you do it? Can you post a vlog? :) I'd love to continue. :)
That was an unusual day :) I would set a goal of 1000 words in an hour. I could usually do it in less time. It was a lot of love scenes, though :)
