My Check-In

My check-in is easy:

0 words

Yep.

I did much editing of "Queen and Assassin" based on suggestions from a friend (who grumbled because it's not done, and I left her hanging). But no new words.

*sigh*

There's a new week starting tomorrow!

Checking In and Misc Rambling

I worked on "Queen and Assassin" this week. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked, and I didn't meet my goals... but I did get words down, so I'm relatively content.

Words written this week = 705
Total words on Q&A = 25,783

I admit to being just a tad worried -- I'm fairly close to the end, maybe another 15,000 words or so? And I want this story to be 65k or more. 25 + 15 does not equal 65, no matter how I do the math. Does the story have another 25k in it that I don't see? Are there legitimate scenes that could be added that contribute to the story and aren't just filler? Can I beef up what's already there?

There are a few things I need to happen earlier in the story in places I've already written: I need to name the dulin (and I'm on the fence about this... the dulin is known as a pretty scary and vicious predator, so do I name him something silly like "Fluffy" just for grins, or do I name him something that reflects what he is like "Terminator"?) and I need my heroine's brother to teach her a few things in regards to her psychic gift.

So, now, I've done the unthinkable -- I've gone back to the beginning to fill in the places I need filled in. I know, I know, in a real "wrimo" you don't go back. Ever. But I'm not really editing as much as I'm writing scenes out of order. I'm making the story better ("bigger, stronger, better than before") and hopefully at least a little longer.

And then, I need to brainstorm a few additional, meaty scenes. 65,000 words... here I come.

My Saturday Check-In

Despite my enthusiasm for the new story I've been brainstorming, my fantasy has taken over my writing life. I didn't make my goal for the week, but I did write -- and when I managed to find blocks of time, the words just fell from my fingers. It was wonderful.

I added just over 3000 words to my story. Not the 7000 I'd been shooting for, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!!

You?

Oh, and... HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

Writing feels GOOD!

I finally managed to squeak in some writing time this morning -- and it felt GREAT!! I worked on "Queen and Assassin", still frustrating myself with the overabundance of dialogue and lack of narrative, but oddly incapable of changing it as I wrote despite my awareness of the lack.

Still... I wrote. Only 1007 words -- I wanted more, but ran out of time. I'll try for more later today.

In the meantime, my current total word count for JaNo is:

A Few Good Words

Still behind (I'm beginning to think that's my mantra). I had assumed that life would be back to normal in January, but I neglected to realize that rebuilding the entire LASR site and archiving the past years-worth of everything would still be going on.

I'm writing, but not as much as I like. And, I shift back and forth between works because Queen and Assassin is a highly emotional, fairly dark (for me), serious work. And it exhausts me. So I move to A Jewel for Geoff for a bit of fun.

My word count right now for the month is:

I plan on shooting for more today. I can't do a marathon website building day like I did yesterday (until I thought my eyeballs were going to fall out of my head), so I will write some.

I ended a scene in AJFG this morning, and started on Q&A. Fave line today?

A breath of time later, agony stabbed through Starrlyn—pain, but not her own. Death—but no one she knew. And the world wept as she lost consciousness.

And so the fun continues... ha.
