Then... a miracle. He left to go to his uncle's place for a couple hours, and DD left to do school. I HAD TIME ALONE. Shocking, but true. And I closed all my email windows, closed my website software, told myself it was okay not to do LASR work for a couple of hours and I wrote. And the moment my NaNo Excel report card said "Way to Go!" in the little comments column instead of "Get on It!", I stopped. I am currently just barely at the word count I need to be for NaNoWriMo (1666 words per day), but that's okay. I'll just keep plugging along no matter what. Slow and steady and all that...

Day Five: Still Hanging in!
I had a LOT of catching up to do, and didn't figure I'd be able to do it. DH got up early this a.m. again (though not as early as he had been, thankfully), but I got about 500 words this morning before that happened.

Day Four: Chugging Along
Okay... I made up my word count yesterday, but then this a.m. DH and DD were both up early, so I only got a little over 600 words. Hopefully I can get at least another 1000 later today.

Day Three: A Work In Progress
This a.m. was not a banner morning for writing... I hope to get more in this afternoon. But for now:

Where Did the Time Go?
I keep asking myself that. It seems like just when I think I'll have a moment to write or edit or do something for myself... it doesn't happen. Where does it go? Does anyone know?
Well, this last week has actually been pretty good. As far as writing it's been more about editing and getting some rewrites done that needed to be done so I could feel good about submitting this story. It's my Cowboy story, and I'm hoping it doesn't need much more since I had to rewrite the entire ending and parts of the middle. I think it's so much better for it now.
So, my word count for this last week is mostly rewrites, but it's all new to the story... so it counts. LOL I have 3513 new words for that story, and about half of the edits which add I dunno a couple thousand more words, but only in tweaking. LOL
Now, to see if it's ready for submission. Cross your fingers, I want to get it submitted by the end of the month... and that's Sunday.

New month, new gameplan
It's a new month! Hurray for April and spring and newness and all that wonderful Easter candy that has made me leave behind all my weightloss intentions until after the holiday! Hurray!
With the new month comes a new gameplan, especially since all of my family stresses seem to be finally resolving themselves. Life is good and a high word count is excellent!
So, to report my progress. Didn't get to write much on the 1st (had to still take care of one of those last family things), but I did get more than 500 good words written despite the day's running. And made my goal for the 2nd and 4th, with the 3rd coming in at more than double. So, for the first week of April...drumroll, please... a tiny bit more than 6700 words!
Still working on today's, but that, of course, goes into next week's word count total hopper.
Good luck to all!

Holy... Cannoli!
I'm being PG here. Maybe... I don't know if it's possible for me to be completely PG.
I'm checking in early because I'm riding a bit of a high tonight. LOL. I just wrote 12,000+ words in two days. Nope, you didn't read that wrong... TWELVE THOUSAND PLUS words. I don't think I've ever done that before! :::doing a little happy dance:::

So, I let Mysti egg me on and I wrote... and wrote... and wrote... and made my hubby feed the kids (which he didn't complain about) and the short story she challenged me to write is in her inbox as of an hour and a half ago. I'm gonna ride this high for a bit... until she sends me her edits. *groan* I hate edits.
Ayway... my word count widget for the story is as follows:
Kealie's "Appearances"

That means I met my goals, at least for this week. YAY! I guess I work much better when I'm dared to do it... and when someone pokes me... anyone else want to email me and poke at me? LOL

My Feb Totals
Well... I did write SOME in February. Not nearly enough, but every word counts.
For "Queen and Assassin" I wrote: 2,127
For "A Jewel for Geoff" I wrote: 555
For a (not so?) Grand Total of:5,364 (thanks to C for pointing out the interesting addition I did here, I hate typos *sigh*) 2,682
I'm setting a new goal of 500 words a day for March. Dang it. I'm going to do it.

Bad News, Good News...
The bad news: ... word count. Ugh.
For this past week -- a BIG FAT ZERO.
Between DD being sick, me being under the weather and just being utterly swamped with other stuff, I didn't make the time to write. Please note: I did NOT say that I didn't "HAVE" the time to write, because there is always time. Always, always, always. A pet peeve of mine is folks who say they don't have time. So, I had the time, I just opted to use it on other things.
Shame on me. This coming week will be different.
The good news: ... I figured out how to fix "A Jewel For Geoff". Out of the blue, in the middle of a shower no less, the idea came to me! Woot! See... I didn't like the occupation I'd given the heroine and her family. It wasn't working, but I couldn't see a way out of it because I needed her to be somewhere doing something at one point. And then **POOF**, it came to me. And I'm thrilled.
The subconscious mind is a wonderful thing.
So, this week, I'm going to make those changes and see if the words flow on Geoff's story. If not, it's back to my fantasy (have I mentioned, lately, how much I love that story?).
BUT -- I WILL MAKE THE TIME TO WRITE.
How about you?

Sticking My Head In...
And hanging it in shame. *sigh* I don't have a whole heck of a lot more done than the last time I checked in. This is my widget as of today:

I think that gives me a grand total of 600 words since I last checked in (probably less). But, I saw that Marianne had her Nag hat on and knew I needed to at least check in, give a rundown of... well of why I don't get to sit and write like I want to... no like I need to.
I have spent the last eight weeks in and out of a cardiologist office only to have him tell me after numerous tests that whatever is wrong with me it's, "Most likely not something I as a cardiologist can help you with." Nice, huh. Now, apparently I get to start all over with another doctor. I go back to my "regular" doc in another week when he will most likely tell me that I will need to go to another specialist. Something's got to give, as the fatigue is just a no-go when I have four children to take care of on a day-to-day basis.
Add to that, my kids and I ALL got the stomach flu... and it's so not fun when at least two of those children can't make it to a bucket or toilet... yeah, TMI I know. My hubby is also currently in the middle of a "project", that is along the lines of a Thesis, for the Masters program he's enrolled in to further his education. So, no help from that area there, when I've gotten quite spoiled by his constant help. Hopefully, that will settle down in the next week and life will at least be on the way to normal.... at least as normal as it gets in my house. We'll see, but hopefully I'll be able to write, and drop in more, since most of y'all have no idea who I am or what I'm writing. LOL
So... that's my report... lament whatever. See y'all around.

My Saturday Check-In

I added just over 3000 words to my story. Not the 7000 I'd been shooting for, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!!
You?
Oh, and... HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

Running Behind... But Running!!
I got horribly sidetracked this week by another story. If you read my personal blog (this post) you'll see what happened.
So... unless I count the words I wrote on the character interview, on my scene cards and in my head, I'm currently at a big, fat ZERO.
But that will change this week as I start to write on this story. I'll still trade off with my fantasy as well, but I really am enthused about the new one. Better, I feel like I have a bit more under control than I have my previous stuff. Will that work for or against me?
Guess we'll find out!
Now, though, I must waste precious writing time and go put on my nag hat ;-)

Last Minute Push
Well, I thought I could do it until the bleepin cold kicked in. But I must say I didn't do too badly.
Today I pushed as much as I could. It was my full day at work (I work a 6 day week, 5 short days and 1 long day), but I managed to get a chunk written. I don't know if I'll be able to do anymore writing tonight so I'll post my official JaNoWriMo word count.
Drum roll please........

Not quite there, but pretty close.
Onward and upward! I'll continue this wip into next month because I'm really liking it.
It's been fun! See ya'll tomorrow

Write where you are
One of the things I’ve discovered during JaNo is some of my best writing times are when I sit in the waiting area while:
- My son gets his guitar lesson
- My daughter takes her gymnastics class
- My daughter takes her dance class
I haven’t tried writing at my daughter’s swim lessons. Pen and paper? Or handheld computer? Either way, just add water = instant disaster.
I’m at 15,300 words at the moment, which isn’t even close to 50,000. But it’s a lot closer than zero. And I have JaNo to thank for that.
I’ve also discovered things I never knew that I knew, such as there really is such a thing as a vintage (circa 1983) Star Wars pencil case. A good thing, seeing as I gave one to the chess club president.

Saturday Check In
Okay, here's where I am thus far

Not bad but I really had hoped to be further along. Too many skipped days, not enough motivation. I was inspired today, however, to write a scene from my fantasy just so I could introduce a particular character. I have about 1200 words from that so far, so I can't complain there.
One more week left! I'm still hoping it can be done.
And thanks to everyone who's been wishing me well. Slowly but surely I seem to be improving though a coworker is convinced I have bronchitis. Is that contagious??

just posting word count
I'm far short of where I need to be at 50K by month end, but as of today I'm at 22,568 since I started JaNo. Not quite 1000 words a day average, but given that I've found somedays taking out as many as I've written (despite the firm talks I've delivered to my writing self), I'm feeling pretty good. Had planned to do more writing each day on this wip, but too many gotta-do-it-now opportunities that wouldn't be available after the end of the month cropped up--and I'm weak.
May not make the 50K, but I'm still plugging along!

Feeling Good
No need to comment, just wanted to post... got another 1000+ words today.

Still way behind in the overall scheme of things, but I have 22,000 words done in Queen and Assassin. I'm shooting for 65,000 total, and have a long way to go.
Wanna do this again in Feb? LOL...

Writing feels GOOD!
I finally managed to squeak in some writing time this morning -- and it felt GREAT!! I worked on "Queen and Assassin", still frustrating myself with the overabundance of dialogue and lack of narrative, but oddly incapable of changing it as I wrote despite my awareness of the lack.
Still... I wrote. Only 1007 words -- I wanted more, but ran out of time. I'll try for more later today.
In the meantime, my current total word count for JaNo is:

Weekend Check-In
Geoff and his friends are NOT BEHAVING. I am not pleased at some of the things that came off my fingertips this week, so Geoff has to go sit in the corner. Beginning tomorrow, I'm back at work on "Queen and Assassin". That'll teach my characters to think they have any say in the story.
Harrumph.
So, my pitiful total word count is currently:

A Day Late
Not that there's much to report. I haven't put out more than 1200 words since the 14th. I got slammed with a horrible cold and it's all I can do to speak coherently, never mind write anything that makes sense. I tried going into work on Friday, didn't make it much past 9am and tried again yesterday but called it quits at 1pm. Not great.
Anyway, I have the next two days off. I'm going to try to get lots done. I'm shocked that we're past the halfway mark for the month. EEEEKKKKK.

Everyone have a wonderful day!
