Exactly What Do I Think I'm Doing?

I've been more excited about JaNoWriMo than I was about Christmas. I had all these ideas for the novel I'm going to write so easily and quickly this month. So why didn't I start?

On your mark! Get ready! Set! Go...do something else. Word count: ZERO.

My excuses are unique and lousy. My husband decided to make the desk for my treadmill that is my Christmas present. That way I can write and walk (slowly). So, of course I couldn't work with him in my office.

I mean, he was using a power tool. He was singing. He was snacking on cashews. He was walking to and fro. It was noisy. He was finished by 2:00 or so and then I had to pick up our daughter from a sleepover.

And heaven knows I couldn't possibly write in any other room. Oh no. Not when there was such a good excuse going on in this one.

And I couldn't write when I got her back home, could I?

Apparently not. Waiting for a little adrenaline rush. At least while I'm procrastinating I'm going to listen to a Vanessa Grant lecture while I take down the Christmas tree. Maybe when the Christmas stuff is all in the attic, the attic in my head will be a better place to work.

Happy New Year, all, and know that whatever you have done or didn't do, my purpose is to make you look good.

Wait... you can write and walk at the same time??? Get out!

I'm hugely impressed. But sorry you didn't get any words down. I would've been in the same boat if I hadn't gotten up before 5am this morning and gotten a head start.

I'm with Ceri... I can't write and do ANYTHING at the same time. It's a wonder I remember to breathe in and out.

LOL... good luck!

I have a friend who writes while on the treadmill--she swears by it. I think it was Hemingway who would write standing up (I think ... maybe it was someone else).

Great desk idea! Someone at my office rigged their desk up high so that they have to stand all day. The walking aspect actually sounds way more fun!

At least you were doing things that kept you from the comp! I was actually sitting at my comp for most of the day and only got 300(ish) words. Yah, note remotely close to that 1667 I was shooting for... lol

I've never heard of writing and walking at the same time. I'm sure I'd hurt myself. Possibly even kill myself. But more power to you if you can get it done!

Sounds like a great project that your husband did for WHEN he finishes. You still have many days ahead.

Thanks. Actually, you walk so slowly on the treadmill that you're barely walking. Supposedly you can lose 67 lbs. in a year doing this. A researcher at the Mayo Clinic came up with this. Supposed to have amazing health benefits except it's not a cardio workout or weight training.

I find it helps with my anxiety about what I'm doing. But I'm still new at it. Just one step at a time, one word at a time.
