Saturday check-in on Monday

Although I know I probably won't make it to 50,000 by the end of the month, I'm really happy to have made it this far!

I tried to get ahead of schedule and bank some words for when I took my son to Berlin for four days this past weekend. The idea was that I'd only have to write 1,000 words a day in Berlin. Well . . . that didn't happen. I took my Alpha and wrote about 4,000 words related to Berlin-with-a-kid but found I couldn't switch voices from travel journalling to fiction - is that a walk and chew gum thing? Or is it just me? Oh well, I was glad to get the travel stuff written because I haven't been doing a great job of that lately on trips so to get back into the discipline of it is huge for me.

The other thing I did on the trip was read the first two books of the "Twilight" series. I'd already read "The Host" and flew through that (okay, it was somewhat flawed, but still, I couldn't put it down!). Then I listened to an interview Stephanie Meyer did and found her suburban-mom-to-author-story hugely inspiring. It turns out we have soooooo much in common. She's  a mom, I'm a mom. She loves to read, I love to read. Okay, the commonality ends after that but it's more than I'll ever have in common with James Patterson!  What are you reading right now?

I'm reading The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to a Nation, Volume II. It's a great book (as was Volume I) but it's written in kind of archaic language so the going is slow. Love it though.

And hey, you're a mom. I'm a mom. You love to read. I love to read. Now if I could just have the amount of words you've put down this month in common with you -- I'd be happy :)

I'm reading whatever I get sent to me to read for reviews, lol... I seldom get to choose anymore, but that's okay.

And, I must be a little schizo because I love to change voices -- my two current WIPs couldn't be more different. So, when I'm tired of depressing dark fantasy, I move to light, silly romantic comedy. :-)

And... hey... I'm a mom, you're a mom. I love to read, you love to read.

WOOT!

I'm reading one of the books I'm judging for the Rita, in addition to Genius Squad (the sequel to Evil Genius), and next up is The Hunger Games. Oh, and D, I want to read the next volume of Octavian Nothing, too.

So. Many. Books.

Sounds like your trip was great, even if you didn't write what you'd planned on writing.

I. Loved. The Host. Its strange, it was so good yet simple in a way. I've also finished the first two in the Twilight series and am anxiously awaiting the 3rd (which my DD is reading....slowly). I'm really loving the series. Stephanie Meyers is really a good role model.

Like Marianne, I'm working on 2 completely different types of wips. It's working. When I get to a sticking point with one I move over to the other, and go back and forth. It's all good.

I'm reading The Fortune Cookie Chronicles by Jennifer 8. Lee. I just ordered a slew of Charlie Huston books, so I guess I'll be reading him. I also just finished both Cyrano and The Misanthrope for teaching. I forgot just how good Cyrano is.

Congrats on doing so well! Also, I hope you've enjoyed Berlin. That sounds wonderful.
